Product Description

Power Steering Pump conversion kit to fit Ford Falcon EB to EL (8 Cylinder Engines)

The most common issue’s we have seen with the Ford Falcon EA to EL V8 engine Thompson CII pumps are, leaking Oil or very noisy pump when turning the steering. This is due to either poor design and or worn internal components.

To make this more of an issue when removing this original pump you need to remove the pulley before you can get the pump off the bracket on the engine. We have seen customers damage the pulley just trying to get the pumps out of the vehicle this Original Pulley is no longer available.

This in mind we have developed a conversion kit that converts the original Thompson CII pump to a better design Saginaw pump with a New Pulley.

Our Conversion kit contains –
1 x Remanufactured Saginaw power steering pump.
1 x NEW Pulley (Fitted to Pump).
1 x New laser cut adaptor bracket (that bolts directly on the original mounting bracket on the engine).
1 x New Reservoir.
1 x New Reservoir bracket (To be mounted in engine Bay).
1 x New return hose 10mm ID & Clamps
1 x New Supply Hose 16mm ID & Clamps.

Assorted Bolts & Nuts to mount adaptor and Pump.

Our new design conversion pump can be installed and removed from the engine without the need to remove the pulley.

Please Note - This kit requires some modifying to fit the reservoir to the inner guard and the hi-pressure hose must be modified to a Banjo Style fitting to make this conversion fit to the vehicle. Ultimate Power Steering is not responsible for any extra costs or modifications to the vehicle for fitment of this kit

This Steering Pump Conversion Kit will fit all Ford Falcon & Fairlane’s EB to EL Series with V8 Engines fitted from 8/91 to 8/98 with the Thompson CII Power Steering Pump. Models include EB, ED, NA, NC, DA, DB, DD, EF, NF, DF, NL, DL and EL.

This Pump Kit comes with our 1 year / 20,000Klm replacement warranty.

Order by 3pm Monday - Friday for same day despatch.

  2. Easy conversion with basic knowledge of mechanics 5 Star Review

We bought our 1998 Ford Transit 2 years ago which has a 302 V8 conversion and donor vehicle was a 1996 Ford LTD. The C2 Thompson pump has been nothing but trouble, in 2 years we repaired the original pump twice and then replaced it with another reconditioned C2 pump. Bad move cause the seals on the plastic reservoir leaked after just 6 months and less than 6000 ks. Wish I knew about this conversion which I've now done by myself.

The hardest part of the conversion was removing the pulley on the C2 pump but once that was removed the rest was easy. However, the spring washers supplied in the kit for the 16mm bolts make the head of the bolts stick out too far causing the pulley on the Saginaw pump to scrape. So, I removed the spring washers and used Locktite on the bolt threads.

With the Hi Pressure hose you can use your original hose IF it still has some flex in it. Pritek.com.au quoted me $40 to supply & fit the required Banjo fitting but couldn't guarantee it being fitted to a 2nd hand hose. So, I opted to have a new hose made by them about 100mm longer than the original at a cost of around $125. The slightly longer hose gives a bit more wiggle room. Note, you need to take both the hose and the Saginaw pump to them because the bolt on the banjo fitting needs to be trimmed slightly.

Before fitting the return hose to the reservoir I used a short section of hoe and a 3/8 bolt to block the reservoir pipe then ran the return hose into a bucket. I then ran 2 litres of cheap ATF type power steering fluid to flush the system, then reconnected the return hose to the reservoir and topped up with Penrite ATF type power steering fluid.

The Saginaw pump is so quiet and the steering seems to feel a lot lighter. Overall I'm very happy with this conversion and was reasonably easy for a non mechanic like myself. A Mechanic or anyone with basic skills should be able to do this conversion in less than 2 hours if the high pressure hose is converted first.

Hope my ramble above is helpful.
